Today, we received many postcards in our mailbox giving details of sex offenders living in our neighborhood. As I sat reading this, there was an ice cream truck going around the block with its old fashioned voice calling the kids and saying hello in a female voice. It was a strange type of calling. This is all happening after two weeks of intense violence within families, cultures and drug related murders in our area. Listening to this description, twenty years ago, you would never have placed me where I live now. Even ten years ago, it might not be this bad. Now, it is becoming the norm. But you know what the really sad thing about the whole story is for me, when I talk about things or say something to other people who have lived here for generations, their response is: ‘ya know, that is the way it is, it’s gonna be that way, because that is the way it is, always was and always will be, your never gonna change it, so get over it, nothing is ever different, so, it is what it is”. You know what, they are right, … it is what it is. No one will change it, the people are the ones that can change it and they have absolutely no desire to change it and absolutely nothing to gain from it so why upset the apple cart, there is money in the bottom of the cart!!
So, if you are living in an area of the country right now that seems to be becoming unappetizing, look around, see what you think you can do with others to help make social changes. However, if at all costs, changes are not supported……. make a change for yourself…….. step on out. If the picture of what the area has become does not reflect your family, then just by you being there it does affect your family. Make a change to an area where you are supported with healthier ideas and policies. No one has to be a victim of life or anyone else, you have a choice.
Life is supposed to be a good journey, not a painful one………..
